FPWA Sexual Health Services Presents
The WA Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus (WASHBBV) Forum will be held on November 19th and 20th 2008 at the All Seasons Hotel in Northbridge. The WASHBBV Forum is hosted by FPWA Sexual Health Service's Sexual Health Network and aims to promote the latest practical research and methods when working in Indigenous Sexual Health. The WASHBBV Forum also allows workers the opportunity to connect, network and learn from each others experiences.
The WASHBBV Forum caters for regional and remote participants, as well as metropolitan participants through its diversity of presentations and speakers. The theme for 2008 is “Listening To The Voices of Youth” and will highlight enjoyable, evidence-based practises for working in sexual health with Aboriginal young people. This theme was chosen after careful consideration of feedback received through formal evaluation processes. In alignment with the theme, young people will be encouraged to attend and present over the two days of the Forum and scholarships will be available to assist in this process.
The WASHBBV Forum aims to promote sexual health as a topic which can be addressed at a community level. Youth Workers, Teachers, Community Elders, Aboriginal Health Workers, Nurses and many others will find the presentations relevant, informative and inspiring. Participants will leave the two-day Forum with sound ideas and plans for developing Sexual Health programs in their own communities.
The WASHBBV Forum program is still in draft stage while guest speakers are being confirmed. It is anticipated that a formal draft will be available by Monday 6th October.
A networking dinner will be held on the Wednesday night at the venue of the WASHBBV Forum to encourage collaboration and informal sharing.
On Friday the 21st of November FPWA Sexual Health Services will also host an evaluation and refresher day for the Mooditj program. It is hoped that WASHBBV Forum participants who have been trained in Mooditj will attend this day to share their experiences, celebrate their successes and guide FPWA Sexual Health Services as it continues to evolve the Mooditj Program.
